At Helfinstine & Associates, we work hard to make life easier for our clients and their companies.
We are the largest business advisory and CPA firm based in the Tri-Cities. Our professionals based in
Prescott and Prescott Valley give individuals, closely held firms and entrepreneurs the innovative
business and tax solutions they need to succeed.
And though we're experts in all the areas you would want from an established local accounting firm,
you'll be surprised that we look beyond conventional solutions and give you more than routine
advice. This may not be what you would expect from accountants. But then again, we're not your
average CPAs.

Helfinstine & Associates currently employs about 15 people with extensive tax, accounting and
business consulting experience. The quality of our combined knowledge is unmatched and unparalleled
in the Tri-Cities area.

Scott Helfinstine, CPA CFP

“I don’t like surprises. I want to work with clients throughout the year and plan ahead for
positive outcomes and avoid surprises.”
As founder of the firm, Scott has proactively worked with clients for over 20 years to plan for
positive outcomes relating to accounting, income tax, and financial planning issues. His educational
background includes a BS degree in accounting from Northern Arizona University in 1978 followed by a
Masters of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University in 1995. In addition, Scott
earned his Certified Financial Planner designation in 1992. This varied educational background gives
him a broad perspective to resolve personal and business financial issues facing his clients.
In addition to serving clients, Scott has also served his community. His involvement with civic and
volunteer organizations dates back to 1978 and include coaching AYSO soccer, little league baseball,
girls softball, serving in leadership positions with the Arizona Society of CPAs, Prescott Preservation
Commission, Prescott Sunrise Lions Club, Prescott Fines Arts Association, YMCA of Yavapai County,
Prescott Open Trails Association, and the Prescott Valley Economic Development Foundation.

Rich Joliet, CPA

Born in Ohio, Rich’s family moved to Scottsdale in 1971. Rich attended high school in the valley before
attending college at St. Louis University. Graduating in 1979 with a degree in business administration
and an accounting major, Rich remained in the St Louis area where he held various positions in 2 different
apparel manufacturing firms. In 1989, Rich and his family moved to Phoenix where he was the controller
and business manager for an auto retailer with several sales locations. Rich has owned two businesses and
understands the stresses and concerns of the smaller business owner. After a five year stay in Albuquerque
New Mexico, Rich and his family moved to Prescott.
Rich and his wife have a daughter and two sons and live in Quailwood. Rich and his wife are NASCAR fans
and have attended several races in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Rich’s other interests includes football, basketball,
landscaping and refinishing furniture. Rich works mainly out of the Prescott Valley office and enjoys
working with small businesses looking to grow from a solid financial foundation.

John Hessling, CPA, JD

John Hessling has over 10 years of experience in tax, financial advisory services, asset protection and estate
planning. John’s educational background includes a JD degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2002 and a
bachelors of accounting from Marquette University in 1998.
John lives in Prescott Valley with his wife Jodie. He is an avid sports enthusiast and also enjoys spending
time outdoors mountain biking and hiking.

Bonnie Goswami

Prior to joining Helfinstine & Associates in October, Bonnie moved here from St Louis in 2006. Before
that she lived in Texas and worked with a CPA there for 6 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree
from India.
Bonnie's husband works for Yavapai College and they have a daughter in college and a
son in Prescott High School. In her spare time she loves to read and cook.

James Helfinstine, CFS

Jim manages the Financial Planning segment of Helfinstine & Associates. He is a Certified Funds
Specialist, which defines his mutual funds expertise. Jim holds Series 7, Series 24 (Registered
Principal) and Life & Variable Annuity licenses. Jim has worked in the Investment and Financial
Planning business since 1994.
Jim, his wife Mariann and two daughters live in Prescott. Jim is very active and when not conducting
business he is very involved with family activities that include assistant coach of his
daughter’s soccer team and boating/water skiing/wake boarding in addition to
running, tennis and golf.
Jim’s community service commitments include Kiwanis Club of Prescott of which he is a past
Board Member. He is a former Marine having served in The Gulf war (Desert Storm) and was stationed
in Camp Pendleton, CA, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

Support Team
The Helfinstine & Associates Support Team is second to none. It is because of these dedicated
individuals that the Firm operates with the highest level of efficiency and responsiveness.
They provide financial statement preparation, employment and sales tax report preparation, monthly
write-up and bookkeeping services to list but a few of their responsibilities.
Managing office workflow, assembling tax returns, assisting with special projects, general office and
receptionist duties are just some of the additional support services provided by these very special team
members.
